Data Analyst

– London, London, City of
Employment Type Full-Time
Minimum Experience Mid-level

Source, a leading provider of research, data, and strategic advice about the global professional services industry, is seeking more bright and brilliant analysts to join the rapidly growing team.

A culture of openness and ideas-sharing make for high exposure and impact, and there is strong emphasis on investing in talent.

About Source

Co-founded in 2008 by one of the leading commentators on the management consultant industry, Fiona Czerniawska (ex- EY & PwC), Source has since become a leading provider of research, data, and strategic advice about the global management consulting industry, headquartered in London.

Underpinned by the biggest and most sophisticated data model of the consulting industry ever created, our work helps consulting firms to navigate the ever-changing market place and accelerate their growth plans. Our customers include all of the world’s biggest 20 consulting firms; we provide them with the intelligence they need to make better decisions.

Our team and culture

The Source team is made up of 39 bright and hard-working individuals, many of whom started their careers in large consulting firms before joining Source to continue doing challenging analytical and strategic thinking, for consulting firms themselves, in a more diverse and flexible environment. We travel frequently to major business centres like New York, Frankfurt, Paris and Dubai – but rarely to an extent that’s overwhelming.

Our culture is one of the cornerstones of our success: We give our people a say in the way our company is run, treating them as individuals but celebrating our successes as a team. It’s a relaxed, fun, but hard-working company, where everybody has a voice and is encouraged to share their ideas about how we grow. We back that up by distributing 10% of our profits among our staff every year, and by providing employees with the opportunity to own equity in our business.

Every year, those who have worked with the company for the longest time get to nominate a destination for one of our quarterly meetings, and then everybody gets to vote on where we go. So far that’s taken us to Istanbul, Seville, Dubrovnik, Corfu and the Loire Valley.

About the opportunity

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Data management: Take a lot of unstructured data from multiple sources and turn it into clear and accurate information that can be used by other analysts who are looking for the stories it has hidden within it. Take responsibility for the quality of the data we own, and looks for ways to improve it.
  • Data analysis: Support analysts who are working on “bespoke projects” (consulting projects, basically), providing them with data, in a variety of forms, for those projects.
  • QA data: Ensure the accuracy of data in our reports before they get published/sent to clients.

These are the skills we need you to have:

  • Excel: We need you to a highly-proficient user of Excel, preferably with some programming knowledge (VBA to help us running macros on big spreadsheets).
  • Data visualisation: As well as being handy with algorithms, we need you to be able to think about how data is displayed and tell a meaningful - and clear - story. Experience of Tableau preferred, or experience with other visualisation packages such as QlickView/Power BI is desirable.
  • Statistical capabilities: We need you to be highly numerate and statistically literate, with a background in a statistical discipline. We’d like to you to be able to perform cross-tabulation and linear regression analysis wherever this may benefit the business. Proficiency in another statistical package is desirable (e.g; R and Python (Pandas)), as is the ability to experiment and add value when finding ways to best apply them across the business.

This is the sort of person we need:

We need someone who loves data, and loves analysing it, but whose interest also extends to the way data is communicated to people (through charts, infographics, etc.) and can imagine new and exciting ways to do that. Being organised and methodical is critical, because errors can have a significant impact on the integrity and the quality of the information we provide to our customers. Basically, we need someone who is resilient enough to wade through a swamp of data and emerge with information that is accurate, consistent and, above all else, interesting.

Source is a fast moving company, so you will need to be pro-active in learning new skills and keep up-to-date on the latest developments in the data world.

We want our organisation to consist of people who:

  • Are generous with their time in order to help each other (and our customers) succeed
  • Take the wheel when needed
  • Have a positive attitude
  • Can always be objective and honest
  • Keep an eye on the future
  • Are always professional
  • Have a sense of fairness
  • Trust each other
  • Ask, listen and hear
  • Are approachable
  • Are curious, and who want to learn
  • Are constantly looking for ways to improve things (products and processes)
  • Develop products we can be proud of
  • Have an intuitive sense of what’s important
  • Demonstrate leadership by example
  • Laugh a lot
