Source, a leading provider of research, data, and strategic advice about the global professional services industry, is seeking a Researcher to join the team.
Our culture is one of the cornerstones of our success: We give our people a say in the way our company is run, treating them as individuals, but celebrating our successes as a team. Everybody has a voice and is encouraged to share their ideas about how we grow.
About the opportunity
Do you take joy in reading those little boxes in newspapers that summarise the nominees for the Booker, the teams for the next World Cup, or what’s hot at Paris Fashion Week? Did you fall in love with the succinct yet stylish footnote when you were writing your dissertation?
If it’s a yes to any or all of the above, then we’ve got the job for you. We’re looking for someone to draw on our proprietary data sources and conduct extensive desk-based research from publicly available information to support the work of different teams across our company. Our clients—predominantly consulting firms—approach us for a variety of projects, from sizing markets and commenting on the data to scanning competitive landscapes and making recommendations. Your main responsibility will be to conduct desk-based research and use your judgement in order to support a variety of teams, both on specific projects and in maintaining some of our databases.
Writing commentary: Looking at the results of your desk research in combination with our proprietary data, you will be asked to write commentary that summarises your findings and draws initial conclusions from the research. This could form part of a larger project to provide a solid basis for other members of the team to conduct further analysis, or to be delivered directly to our clients.
Desk-based research: From a project brief, you will structure and collate detailed qualitative and quantitative research into everything from firms and industries to sectors and trends. You will need to think critically about how your research can be delivered most effectively to its end user while exercising judgement on the accuracy and reliability of the information, and show confidence in both summarising and omitting details.
Maintaining our database: Our database is underpinned and populated by a significant amount of automation, but certain aspects require more active curation. You will need to keep abreast of the changes in the sector and play a vital role in ensuring that our database is up-to-date.
This is the sort of person we need
You have an analytical and critical mind, able to sift through large amounts of information and to identify what data is worth recording, discarding, or exploring further. You’re comfortable with figures and numerical data sources. You also have a proven and demonstrable ability to look at a set of information, whether predetermined or shaped by your research, and comment on it with stylish concision.
You are meticulous and care about detail, but don’t get lost in it to the detriment of the big picture and what you’re trying to achieve. Your research will be the bedrock of our analysis, so we need you to be able to keep the quality of your work at a high standard while performing repetitive tasks.
You need to have a background in research, acquired either academically through a dissertation written as part of your finals or a Masters’ degree (2:1 or above), or from at least 18 months experience as a researcher in a professional capacity.
We want our organisation to consist of people who:
Our team and culture
The Source team is made up of around 40 bright and hard-working individuals, many of whom started their careers in large consulting firms before joining Source to continue doing challenging analytical and strategic work, for consulting firms themselves, in a more diverse and flexible environment. We travel frequently to major business centres like New York, Frankfurt, Paris, and Dubai—but rarely to an extent that’s overwhelming.
Every year, those who have worked with the company for the longest time get to nominate a destination for one of our quarterly meetings, and then everybody gets to vote on where we go. So far that’s taken us to Istanbul, Seville, Dubrovnik, Corfu, and the Loire Valley in France.
Source is an equal opportunities employer and will provide reasonable support to disabled applicants throughout the recruitment process. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to identify any additional support that you might require to enable you to make an application.
Please note that the successful candidate will be asked to fill out a criminal record self-disclosure form.
